Josefina (Josie) Caringal de la Cruz passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on April 4, 2011.

Josie, who lived by the “Golden Rule”, always left people feeling happier after having spent time with her. Josie’s laugh was infectious and she was beloved in her personal life by family and friends, and admired and respected in her professional life as a Certified Public Accountant and trusted business advisor.

Josie was the beloved wife of husband, Oscar; loving mother of Cris, Cecile and her husband, Brian; devoted daughter of Lino A. Caringal Sr. and Soledad F. Caringal (deceased); and caring sister of Lino Jr. and his wife Jennifer, and Angel (deceased). She was also a supportive aunt to her nieces and nephews.

Born in Urdaneta, Pangasinan, Philippines, Josie was high school class valedictorian and earned a BS in Business Administration at University of the East, before immigrating to California in 1972.

Josie was most proud of her two accomplished children: Cecile, a Ph.D. cancer researcher at Genentech, and Cris, an attorney and accountant, and her 37 years of happy marriage to Oscar. Together, they traveled to different parts of the world, and also enjoyed dancing. consummate hostess, Josie loved entertaining friends and family at her home, and was known for sending hand-written notes and gifts to those she cared about. She also enjoyed tending to her beloved rose garden.

While Josie thoroughly enjoyed play, she was also a hard worker, dedicated to her clients. She became a licensed CPA in 1977 and opened her CPA practice in 1980. Her original bookkeeping business, began in her living room, thrived as it grew into providing tax and business advisory services to small business owners, with many original loyal clients still served today. Josie was proud that son, Cris, joined and is now managing the firm.

Josie was generous with her time and active in many community organizations including Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County (FACC-OC, a founding director and president for 4 years); Asian Women Entrepreneurs (AWE, a founder); National Association Women Business Owners-Orange County (board member/treasurer) and Asian Business Association of Orange County (ABAOC).

Josie’s enthusiasm and zeal for life will be missed by Asian Women Entrepreneurs and all who knew her.
